Term 3 2012

Term 3 is here and what an exciting term it is going to be!  We have swimming and gymnastics every Monday as well as our Speech Competition and Production.  With Production in mind our curriculum focus this term is The Arts, specifically Drama and Music.
Our first few weeks will have an Olympic theme as we discover the history of the Olympics and Paralympics and get ready for the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London.
As we move into the term we will be working in small groups on Literacy Circles - each group will be reading novels together to discuss text.  We will be learning to; be active listeners and participators, ask questions to clarify text and build on our comprehension skills as well as learning to participate in focused discussions, support our opinions with evidence, disagree constructively and encourage each other.
Our major writing focus will be speech writing, much of this will be done at school but all children will need support from home as this is a big challenge for them.  Each child will be writing a narrative speech and will need to learn their speech and practice it.  We will also be continuing to develop our personal experience writing skills.
Mathematics and statistics this term will be based on Problem Solving, fractions, percentages and decimals.
As always I am sure we will do things that I have not yet planned for but that is what makes teaching so exciting!  Hold tight and enjoy the journey...
Year 6 children will also be finishing their Term 2 Technology unit and we hope to present and hopefully sell the products that they have developed.  We ran out of time last term due to natures little curve balls!
