Kiwi Kids News challenge 2012

The senior syndicate are encouraging the children to read a wide variety of different texts to support their comprehension development as well as broaden their national and world view.  As part of this learning we have decided to take part in a Current Events challenge.  The 2012 Current Events Challenge is a current events competition designed for New Zealand school children.
It is organised by the Kiwi Kids News Website and there are two categories available:
YEAR 7 and 8 - Current event questions appropriate for Year 7 and 8 students.
YEAR 5 and 6 - Current event questions appropriate for Year 5 and 6 students.
Children participating in the 2012 competition take part in 8 current events challenges spread evenly throughout the year. Each challenge has 30 questions with students given 15 minutes to answer.
Quiz 1 - 8 March
Quiz 2 - 4 April
Quiz 3 - 24 May
Quiz 4 - 28 June
Quiz 5 - 16 August
Quiz 6 - 27 September
Quiz 7 - 1 November
Quiz 8 - 29 November
Super Quiz - Quiz 8 will also include the 'Super Quiz' which is for those students wanting to enter the Kiwi Kids       News National competition.

Each quiz is made up of 30 questions,10 questions from each of the following sections
New Zealand news
World news
Sport news
This Challenge is designed to get students interested in news that is constantly around them. We hope that it stimulates talk within your class and discussion around some of the questions or events. We generally find that students find the first test rather hard and then as they get used to the questions and start to look out for news that their scores improve.
Generally most of our questions are from news that is on the Kiwi Kids News website so if students want to improve their score next time, keeping an eye on this site will help them.
